EEEEKKKKK NOT SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS

I just finished up by Blue Dahlia quilt handwork on the binding and  discovered a mishap.
Yes, that is damage!  The quilting was done around the appliqués, but somehow there was a slip up and some stitching went onto this appliqué and the fabric was damaged when the stitches were removed.  I hemmed and hawed about wether to remove it and finally decided I could not live with it.  Fortunately the appliqué could be removed and I had just enough fabric left to do a new one.  I had originally appliquéd them on with invisible thread using a hem stitch.  So I can do that or hand appliqué the new one on with invisible thread.

So there is where I pulled it off.  It will be pretty easy to remember where it goes for sure and exactly the placement.  It took me a little time to find the pattern, thank goodness I kept that magazine.  Frankly I even considered making this quilt crisis a design element, but I guess it is off to fix this EEEEEKKKKK!
It is a finish, but not a very happy one at the moment.

  1. These things happen to all of us and it is not the fun part of creating something. Thankfully you are able to rectify things. I am dealing with a mysterious spot (oil or ink??) that appeared and so far nothing is removing it. Luckily, it is very tiny and it may just have to be part of the quilt. Such is life. :-)

    1. Try Boraxo powdered hand soap to remove it. Its gentle on the quilt and has worked for me every time. I make it into a paste and use a q-tip. Good luck!

  3. Yep! You could totally leave that piece off the quilt and call it a design element.

  4. You were so lucky to find it in time. No harm done, fortunately, and we will never tell.

  5. It's never fun to have to fix something like that, but good that you were able to without too much trouble. Looks like a beautiful quilt!

  6. Ouch! I hope you can get it fixed to your satisfaction! I think it's especially hard to find problems during the quilting portion, after you've spent so much time on a quilt. I know you'll figure out the right thing to do, though!

  7. I think the quilt with the "ghost element" is very interesting... I wouldn't replace that piece, but I would leave the stitches to mark the shape. Thanks for sharing!!

  8. Hi Donnalee,
WOW! I love the idea of leaving it missing . . . it does look really cool. You could totally say that was how the pattern said to do it, or design license. I can also understand why you wanted to fix and replace it. Phew on knowing where the pattern/magazine was - I would have put it someplace safe as well. ~smile~ Roseanne

  9. Glad you had enough fabric to fix it. It will be worth it when you are done.
