CLEAR FRONT ZIP STORAGE BAGS

A few weeks ago I made myself a vinyl zippy bag.  It was very large 18 by 18 or about that size.  I love it but also knew I wanted a couple smaller ones.
I ordered this book by Svetlana Sotak and happened on to a really great bag pattern that I decided was the perfect plan for my smaller bags.
Since my original large bag pattern was a bit cumbersome I liked this new pattern much better.
Dealing with the vinyl was really easy.  I never had to sew directly on the vinyl.
Very quickly the bag was ready to finish the handwork on the binding.
So much fun and so easy I had both bags done in an afternoon.  I made the second bag a bit larger and paid a bit more attention to the strips on the zipper.  My first blue print bag the stitches were not evenly placed due to my not paying attention to the sewing machine needle placement.  A bit of an OCD moment, which I corrected on the second bag.
And an old UFO finished this week as well.  This wall hanging has been hanging around for ages.  I added more quilting on the appliqués and meandered the borders this past week and have since added the binding and sleeve to hang it.

  1. I love your zippered bags. I've not really worked with vinyl because I have a featherweight and don't have a teflon foot for it. I love the idea of not sewing on the vinyl. You've definitely given me food for thought.
    Your appliqué looks beautiful.

  2. I was so happy to read this post! I recently bought vinyl to make some bags but was a bit worried since I’ve never sewn with vinyl before. You’ve inspired me ! Love your bags!

  3. I like those bags! Look like they would be very handy to have around. Apparently we have similar tastes in fabric, here is a link to a purse I made a few years ago. http://littlebitsoftoday.blogspot.com/2013/04/the-cutest-purse-ever.html#comment-form

  4. I'm fascinated by your bags! How will you use them? I see that they're for WIP projects but I'm wondering what you would put in them that would work with a flat bag design. This technique could easily be adapted for a show name tag holder, too. Very cool!

  5. Hi Donnlee! Love those bags - they look like useful sizes for lots of different projects. I'll bet you have them filled already?! Yay to an UFO finish. Those always feel good, don't they? Especially when they've been hanging around for a while. I often wonder why something becomes a UFO when all it needs is to be quilted or binding, but alas I have no answers. Thanks for linking up today. ~smile~ Roseanne

  7. Place a couple loops across the tops of the bags and they would make a great walker or wheelchair bag. Your UFO finish is very elegant.

  8. Your bags look great. Actually the plastic isn’t too hard to sew on if you have to. Congrats on the UFO finish.

  12. Those bags are so cute! I’ve got some vinyl, cut it seems so heavy that I’m afraid to sew it. But you may have spurred me on!

  16. Those zippered vinyl bags are so great, I made one to keep in our car with wet wipes, 2 diapers and a chunks of flannel for emergency diaper changing when the great grands were little. Now it holds napkins, some plastic forks and a flimsy plastic tablecloth for when we grab fast food and head to a local park for lunch. Handy!
