THIS AND THAT

I am in a bit of a creative slump.  Nothing really seems to be coming together.  In an effort to do something I finally resorted to making new doggy placemats for our two pups.
Easy quilting back.
And front.
Love the bone shape.  Although the binding is a little bit of a challenge.  Still one more to make, but it seemed to take care of the HooHumm feeling and got me started on a new track.  I know placemats might seem like a silly thing for dogs, but we have wood floors and our poodle is a messy eater, so it keeps most of the food splatter off the floor.
I purchased a new line by Pat Brovo called Indy Folk.  I had this idea in mind, but just could not get it to come out the way I wanted.    Thus the only alternative was to make dog placemats.  However, once I sort of got myself together I spent sometime on the internet and came across a tutorial on the Missouri Quilting site that was the perfect solution for these fabrics along with pulling a number of Maureen Cracknell's fabric lines to go with them from my stash.
And here we are.  These are the first four of several that I made.  I now have over 10 complete.  They measure 7 inches so will finish at 6.5.  I guess I am going to need lots of them, but they are so fun. So it is off with a renewed creative bug.

  1. Good Morning!
The doggie placemat makes PERFECT sense to me. Just about another who has a dog has a messy floor near their food and water dish. Good grief - I love dogs but they are messy. It's almost too cute for them . . . but you have to look at it, so I get it. I love your new little blocks! My favorite part is that little peak of turquoise in each block, especially on the tips. This looks like just the creative outlet fun you need to get you out of the hohums. ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. Doggie placemats are a great idea! We have hardwood floors in the kitchen too, and I use old kitchen placemats for them. But custom cute ones like yours would be better! Indie Folk is a great line and I love how you’re mixing up the Art Gallery prints together. This will be fun to watch!

  7. Cute placemat - I get it, completely! I need to make one for my daughter's cat. He's strewing his canned food all over the place around his bowl. I guess, actually, I should make 2 or 3 since they'd need to be washed regularly. Love the fun fabrics in your blocks.

  10. Those blocks are cute! I completely understand the need for placemats. Our kitty paws at her water bowl and splashes it all over, so she has a little throw rug under her eating area. Next time I'll make her a quilted one, I think!

  13. Washable and cute, nice solution for the doggie splatters. Our cat is pretty neat but I do have a ceramic tray under her two bowls!

  15. I've looked and looked and can't figure out how the top picture is turning in to the blocks in the bottom picture.
Always fun to learn something new....of course that leads me to more projects when I already have way too many WIP's. LOL
