At last with just having finished off 2 more charity quilt tops I am finely getting on to some fun projects of my own.
Last week I stumbled on to this Fat Quarter Shop Autumn Nights Mystery Quilt Along. The patterns come out once a week. I was able to print off the first three, and purchase fabric for them and started it this past week.I got the three pumpkin blocks done in no time at all and they were fun. They measure 7.5" by 8.5". I only ran into one problem. You need to cut the fabric strips after joined with a 7.5" square ruler on the diagonal. I don't have one, I have an 8.5, 9.5, 10.5,12.5 and a 16.5. I tried using the 8.5" planning to cut down to 7.5", but that didn't work. I am not going to run all over town looking for one. So plan B was to make myself one. A quick trip to the recycle can in our back yard, pull out a wine box that we had just tossed in there after restocking our wine refrigerator and I made myself one, thank you Trader Joe's.This is the last baby quilt top I made for my charity group when they requested baby/children's quilts. This quilt is also going to the charity group, however it originally was not planned for that purpose. I have been working on these blocks as a wedding gift for a family member and was ment to be king size, 100 ten inch blocks. I had 30 done when the couple decided to end their engagement. So decided I wasn't going to have them sitting around for who knew how long. No one in the family close to thinking or old enough to get married. I had exactly the number of blocks needed for a 50" by 60" quilt top and was able to cut a binding and off to the charity group it goes.

Great projects!
ReplyDeleteThe pumpkins turned out really cute. The heart quilt is adorable, but it's sad about the broken engagement. Though best to decide it's not working before you get married.
ReplyDeleteVery cute pumpkins. And you are clever to come up with a suitable method to cut your 7.5" blocks. Yea you! Ditto what Kate said about the heart quilt. And a nice bonus to the charity group. Yep, no one in my family is getting married for a long time!
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkins are very cute. I've saved and printed the Autumn Nights patterns but haven't done anything with them - yet. I still plan to. The baby quilt with the hearts is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteI've had a quilt that was intended as a wedding gift and then had to "repurpose" it. Someone will be very pleased and blessed with it. Thanks for joining the Sew & Tell party.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful. I love all the warm colors of fall.
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
Love your pumpkins! Very clever to make yourself a template for trimming them. Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. https://www.inquiringquilter.com/questions/2025/09/17/wednesday-wait-loss-450
ReplyDeleteLovely pumpkins, I love that one has reverse strips! I use old cardboard boxes for templates too, they are very handy ;) Love the cute print with sloths and the great contrast with the sprippy fabric, it's a lovely baby quilt, and your little hearts are adorable. What a sweet quilt top, sorry for your relative, but someone else is going to love this quilt. Thank you for sharing and linking up!
ReplyDeleteLove your fabric for the Autumn Mystery. It's a great quilt-yours will be awesome. Also, such great donations.
ReplyDeleteThose pumpkins are great! I'm glad you figured out an answer to the 7 1/2 inch square issue. Your solution worked perfectly!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteSuper cute pumpkins. The hearts were an ambitious project. Good plan to move it on and out.
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkin blocks are precious and you were so smart in making your own ruler! Yay! Your heart quilt is lovely! Wow....really beautiful. I'm glad you still finished it! Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteGreat projects. I'm collecting the pumpkins/Autumn Sew Along prompts but haven't begun them yet. Love the fabrics you chose. Have a great week and thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings.
ReplyDeleteDonnalee I saw your post about FQS QAL and had to go check the Pumpkins. I had a squirrel attack happen but my blocks are being modified for a Blog Hop project. I absolutely love that heart quilt. It great that you could repurpose a beauty that was no longer needed for its original purpose. Thank you for sharing on To Do Tuesday. 😁
