FINISHING THE FASSETT

Got a bit done this past week.  I finished my Fassett quilt top.

I really love it.  This type of fabric is not my usual buy, but these Fassett prints certainly have grown on me.  I used almost all of them up except for a bit of one or two of them with this project and my Trees quilt.  I might have to buy some more.

Once again my daughter has enlisted me into making Christmas pillowcases for the boys.  Once she found out I can make them instead of her buying them she had me hooked.

The fabric is flannel, not my favorite.  I never buy it.  Plus there were no coordinate fabrics to make a standard pillow case pattern.  I selected to make them in a pillow fold way.  So one top side is hemmed and the other hemmed and folded over 4 inches.  To make sure the seams did not tray, as flannel tends to do I over locked the seams.  I had never done that on a standard sewing machine.  I do not have a serger.  It worked great and they are nice and neat with no fraying.

For the chicken fans!  My daughter started to decorate for fall this past week.  Looks like two of the hens thought that they should give her a hand.  Snowball seems to believes she is a perfect addition to the fall decor.

  4. hhaha....you wrote: "I might have to buy some more." in referencing your Kaffe fabrics, and my mind quietly whispered, "and so it begins...." I understand. I used to tease the girls at the quilt shop in Boone where I lived until moving to Ohio, that they had definitely drunk the koolade and were in a cult. The quilt shop had a huge selection of Kaffe fabrics and he visited Boone yearly for a while to meet with his cult. LOL Before I moved away, I bought a stash of striped fat quarters thinking I might make them into frames for some solids, so I got some crossweaves too. 3 50 gallon totes later I'm overrun with Kaffe and yet can't bear to part with them. So it's time to use them. Your post made me feel like I'm not alone, and maybe I suddenly have a hankering for koolade.

  5. HAHAHAHA! Donnalee, Snowball is the perfect addition to the Fall decor. Great job on the pillowcases. Maybe you can share more details for those of us not-in-the-know on how you made your pillowcases? I can foresee some in my future for some little people. Your quilt top came together so quickly. Is it a trip around the world pattern? We made a queen-size quilt using that pattern many moons ago but it's still in use. Thanks for linking up this week! ~smile~ Roseanne

  10. Your Kaffe quilt is glorious! Congratulations on a lovely finish! I resisted KF prints initially, until I started sneaking in small bits of them in with lots of other fabrics in my pineapple log cabin (still a UFO) and saw how those big prints chopped up can bring in a lot of energy without overwhelming the project and making it look, well, like a Kaffe Fassett quilt! Kaffe scraps can be fun for appliqué as well; one large scale print has so many different areas to fussy cut for a leaf, a flower center, a petal, etc. So don't throw away any of your scraps from this one!
