JUNE QUILT ALONG

I have a good start on my June Fat Quarter Shop Quilt Along blocks.  

Four done and only two more to go.  Well then another six months, but whose counting.  

Number 5 and 6 are almost ready to go. 

Here is July's block fabric ready to start .

I will be sailing away on a cruise to Alaska this week.  Dogs and house sitters all arranged for these two muts.  They already look a bit concerned.  Don't worry they get spoiled rotten while we are gone.  Plus one of the sitters brings the little Yorkie's boyfriend with her, he is a Yorkie/Maltese mix.  They have a grand time.

However, there are a couple of quilt shops in some of our stops and maybe a bit of scenic shots along the way that I might be able to slip in over the next 10 or 12 days.

A BABY QUILT FINISH

It is finished!  Just the label to sew on the back.  I'm so pleased with the end results.  

And here it is.  The finished size is 40 by 60 inches.  The quilting is serpentine rows of stitching on the borders and between the blocks. I used a larger serpentine on the borders and a smaller one between the blocks.  The blocks have a heart quilting on each one.  

And here is the label ready to border and sew on to the back.  I held it together with its backing with a heart quilted on it.  

This truly is a wonderful finish for a new mom to welcome her baby next month so I'm linking up with:

BABY QUILT CONTINUES

A week or two ago I posted the beginnings of a baby quilt I was ask to make for a friend to give as a gift for her bestie's first baby.
You can see that post in the Featured Post.  Well we have come quite a way along with it.

The top got finished and the first border with lace sewn on.  I tacked the corner lace under and hand stitched it down in just the corner to make sure it did not ravel.  All the stitching will be covered by the batting and back.  It will never show, but reinforces those corners to make sure they stay put.

Just as a side in the pink color way of the theme fabric I made a child's pillowcase with the lace insert.  
I have finished the top and I am now quilting it.  I should be able to have it ready to post on Friday.  For now it is still a work in progress so I am linking up with:

GONZO

Several times a year my guild has speakers that come with trunk shows of their quilts and often pattens and books they sell as well after the lecture.  This week Tiffany Hayes of Needle in a Hayes Stack was our speaker.  
For at least a couple of years I have had a stack of Alison Glass Handcrafted fabric sitting in my stash that I had no idea what to do with.  Tiffany had a pattern called Gonzo; the minute I saw it I knew it would be perfect for these fabrics.  Once home and fabric pulled out I realized that of course.  The pattern photo showed the piece in these exact fabrics.  I have a few different prints from the picture, but they all work anyway.
So I began to pull out and select fabrics.  The pattern has nine different rows of blocks.  Plus the pattern is only 28 by 36 so should not be a long drawn out process to finish.  A perfect wall handing, as I switch mine out about every month or so. 

 I did some cutting.  Some of these little 4 inch finished blocks required me to dig around for my set of EZ Recs and Tri Rulers.  Tools can make a big difference. 

 So we have three rows done and one on its way.  Almost half done, so I'm calling it a finish for this week so I am linking up with:

BUBBLE BATH TWO

A couple weeks ago I started this quilt called Bubble Bath.  I had cut out another one in different fabrics as well.  However, I decided to simplify it a bit and leave off the white corners on each block.  I had these stash of fabrics I thought would look nice in a simpler pattern.

I like it just as well without the corners on the blocks.

TWO TOPS FINISHED AND OFF TO CHARITY PROJECTS

My guild has a charity workshop on the first Wednesday every month from 10 until 2 pm.  We usually have between 25 and 30 ladies who come in and sew tops together.  A number of the ladies also take some home to quilt, sew on bindings, and hand stitch the bindings down.  The guild provides fabric kits for those that want them and many of us make up projects out of our own stashes.  I am overwhelmed with stash fabrics so I have been working out of my own stash for this past year.  I finished up two tops this past week.  

This top pretty much finished off my Cotton and Steel collection.  What I did not use I ended up sending to my bestie Brooke.  There is more than one way to rid ones self of scraps.  This was a flip and sew project so it is ready for a back and a minimum amount of quilting.

My second finish was this baby quilt top.  I have four children, three of them girls.  We are way beyond them have babies or any of their many friends.  My baby fabric stash is ridiculous.  So I have been spending some time cutting up and sewing baby quilts together for the guild.  
In October the guild will give all these finished quilts away to a number of worthy organizations.  Last October we distributed 220 quilts to 5 different agencies.  This coming October it looks like there will be a considerable more for give away.

JOY STUDIO PROJECT

Last month I did some appliqué work for Janet Frisch of Joy Studio.  Her pattern Seamstress from the Handmaids Series was quite the project I must admit.  Lots of tiny pieces and a three day rush job.  

The stand had lots of highlighted appliqué.

Her dress so much easier.

Her face and hair.  I ran into a bit of a problem with the backing fabric showing through the face and a little bit through the hair as well, Never the less I thought the eyes, nose, and other facial features came out really well.  

And done.  Not a finish for me, as it was mailed off to Janet for quilting and framing.

FALL WALL HANGING DONE

I finally finished this piece.  I quilted, quilted, and quilted for what seemed like forever.  The results is so wonderful if I do say so myself.  Plus with all that quilting it still laid flat!
