FORGOTTEN UFOS

I am still digging through several unearthed UFO's after reorganizing all my fabric and storage system.  Some of these items are really old, and completely forgotten.
I know this little piece has to be a good 15 to 20 years old.  I started it with my granddaughter, she is 32 years old now and I know she was in either Middle School or early High School when we worked on it together.  Somewhere along the way she lost interest in it and it got stashed away in the sewing room and forgotten.  She was the one that picked all the buttons out to sew on the blocks.  Not sure how I will quilt around them, but do plan to finish it up.
I started this paper pieced pattern maybe a year to two ago.  I like paper piecing but for some reason this one just never seemed to work well for me and I did loose interest with it and only finished the three large blocks.  This pattern is going to find a new home
Best thing to do was just slap them onto some batting and a back, quilt them, and off to the quilt show boutique in May.  They are 18 inches square and perfect for someone's table.

  1. Good finds and good plans for them - life is too short to work on projects you don't really like.

  3. Cute little Sunbonnet! It's fun to rediscover this project, with all the great memories about it! These little girls and guys are timeless ;) Great use of the pretty flowers too, it's nice to let go some unwanted patterns and declutter the sewing room ;)

  5. The Sun Bonnet Sue blocks are really cute. The paper pieced blocks are pretty too. Great idea to finish those as table toppers.

  6. The Sunbonnet Sue project is adorable. Your granddaughter might get a kick out of seeing it all finished - a fun reminder of memories she made with you all those years ago.

  7. Hi DonnaLeeQ! I am working on a SB Sue project, too. I had to pop over and see all the details. It's so nice that you'll be finishing up this well-loved UFO. Maybe your granddaughter would like to have - maybe she has her own daughter now? It's so cute. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  10. I pretty much gave up on some UFO's. I put then in my booth as unfinished and they all have sold.

  11. It will be fun to see how you finish the Sunbonnets. Great call on making the blocks into smaller, finished items.

  16. Good ol' Sunbonnet Sue and Sam. Those bring back memories, particularly done in those soft pastel colors. I can think of two solutions for quilting the piece. The first would be to hand quilt it. Nothing like hand quilting to let the mind drift over the time you worked on this quilt with your granddaughter. The other is to simply remove the buttons, quilt it and then resew the buttons.

  17. It's always interesting when long gotten projects emerge again. The Sun Bonnet blocks are so pretty, and it probably won't take goo much to finish this off.

  19. It's amazing what you find when you deep clean your creative space. I haven't gotten to the UFO bins yet, but expect there are some treasures there.
