NEW YEAR'S CLEAN UP AND NEW PROJECTS

Christmas over and the new year begins.  Lots of things in progress and a sewing room re-organization is necessary.  Seems like every year at this time I find myself with pretty much a disaster in the sewing room.  Fabric all over the place in complete upheaval.  So I spent Friday refolding and re-stacking fabric.  I have to de-stash some of this mess.  I see lots of charity quilts in my future this year.

Last week I showed off my grand daughter Suren's decorated cookies.  On Christmas Eve she brought me these tree decorations she made that were just like the cookies.  She makes them from some sort of clay that you then bake in the oven.
I have a huge bin of Christmas fabric.  That did not stop me from heading into JoAnn's and buying some more.  Who can resist 70% off.  Now that also means that one gets into the post Christmas spirit and decides to make a Christmas quilt.
I happened on this free Christmas quilt pattern over the holidays, and decided to give it a try.

One nice thing about this pattern is I was able to use up a number of Christmas fat quarters and only used the white fabric strips out of the new fabric purchase.  Getting rid of a good deal of old fabrics scraps with this project, but ended up adding more new than old used to the bin.
Our oldest daughter has two English Mastiff dogs.  This is Loki, he is 11 months old, and weighs in at right about 200 pounds.  FedEx delivers their dog food.  Their security system caught the entire scene of my daughter flying out the door after Loki when she opened the door for the delivery and Loki made a bee line for the truck.  He had this all figured out, and my daughter was really worried about this huge dog climbing right into the truck.  The lady delivery driver was not even fazed and she even happened to have a dog treat for him.

  2. I have been doing a year-end cleanup too - my cutting table also becomes the gift wrap table over the holidays and it seems I am the only one who knows where to put that stuff away ;) The picture of your daughter's dog is hilarious - the driver must be a dog person!

  3. Good for you for getting your room cleaned. I started cleaning mine and barely made it 10 minutes before I got distracted with a scrappy project. LOL

  4. Happy New Year . What darling Christmas ornaments that your granddaughter brought you. I had to do a double take for indeed they do look like cookies. Great start on your Christmas quilt as well. So glad Loki got a treat as he greeted the Fedex lady. Have a wonderful week.

  5. Lol, I just showed this to my husband and we had a good laugh! Our Amazon driver who loves our escape artist dogs and even ran after them with us one day when they got out. That's a cute quilt pattern. Love that Christmas lights fabric. Good score on the Joann fabric!

  6. Sewing room clean up is on my list too. It's amazing how much fabric we end up all over our sewing rooms. Good luck with the clean up and congrats on using up some of your older stash.

  11. I used my work table as a wrapping and figuring out stockings also. When I cleared the Christmas away, it was a wonderful sight to behold! I have managed to fill it up with partially complete log cabin blocks so the projects/ufos are well and out of their place on the shelves! Stay safe and sew on !

  13. Funny story about Loki and a good picture to prove it. Nice that you went to the sale at JoAnn's for Christmas fabric. Your free quilt pattern turned out cute for your Christmas quilt.

  14. Yep, that is something my Loki would do too if we didn't have a fence. Must be the name, it evokes orneriness. The Christmas fabric is awesome but not as awesome as those adorable ornaments.

  16. I too am in post-Christmas quilt mode except mine were started before Christmas and just didn't get done in time, LOL! I bought that same lights print although I only got it at 50% off (should have waited!). Just finished the quilt it's in this week. Hmmm, maybe I need to go back and see if there's any left....
