I finished up my Tree Canopy project over the weekend. And yes, there is mountains of quilting on it.
The project is 14" by 18". I spent a good several days stitching, knotting, and hiding the threads into the batting. I am not a fan of using the tiny stitches beginning and ending to secure my quilting.Adding a dark brown batik print finished the project and just needs a hanging sleeve.
I live in the central valley of California and the entire state seems to be on fire. We have had several weeks of dangerous air quality, ash falling and often an orange glow to the atmosphere. On Friday night my husband snapped a picture of the moon. Yes, it is pumpkin orange, getting ready for Halloween a bit early.
Love this quilt!
ReplyDeleteYour Tree Canopy turned out wonderfully! Love seeing the quilting on the back, and also the binding looks just perfect for it. In Colorado it's also very smoky due to fires, and the moon has looked like that, too.
ReplyDeleteI am really in love with your tree project.....
ReplyDeleteHi Donnalee! Gosh, your canopy of tree leaves turned out just fabulous. Great job on the quilting - all necessary but the worst part is burying all those threads. Now where are you going to hang it? I hope those fires are staying away from your homestead - the poor air quality is enough to deal with. {{Hugs}} Thank you for linking up this week! ~smile~ Roseanne
ReplyDeleteYour tree canopy came out fabulous! Thanks for showing us the quilting on the back. I can't imagine having to deal with the fires on top of the pandemic. I hope it's contained soon and that the flames don't come anywhere near you or your loved ones!
ReplyDeleteYou and I must live close together. I'm in central valley of California too.
ReplyDeleteI love your work. You are most talented.
Thank you for joining the Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday. ♥
Ooh, that is a lot of quilting, but I bet the texture is fabulous. And I’m assuming that even with netting, there would need to be that much quilting. I’m with you—I prefer tying off and burying threads to reducing stitch length at the end of each stitching line. The quilt is a fabulous celebration of autumn. Stay safe there!
ReplyDeleteLooking up through the trees' Autumn glow makes me sigh with pleasure. Love, love, LOVE your quilt finish!!
ReplyDeleteThe tree canopy is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteoh how I love this! my favorite season is fall - and the colors you are using... oh it makes me want it to come now!! (and stay a few months)
ReplyDeleteAwesome image, even if the circumstances are less than desirable.

Hi DonnaLee, your quilt is really awesome. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of tiny stitches as a way to secure quilting either. I find burying threads is a great way to take a break from being hunched of the machine or staring at the computer. If you haven't discovered cheater needles, they are worth taking a look at. Perfect when you need to thread a needle many times over.
ReplyDeleteYou have done an excellent job of capturing the perspective of looking up through the branches.
That is an amazing quilt and love your quilting on it.
ReplyDeleteSorry, I forgot to mention how awesome your quilt is!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to see your link at 'My Corner of the World' this week!!

ReplyDeleteNice quilting on those leaves! I saw that moon too. Pretty and unusual!
