BENDING TREE

I took a break from charity quilts this week and decided to work on my Bending Tree appliqué project.  I pulled a picture off Facebook and enlarged it for my pattern.  The picture came from The Quilt Show put on by Ricky Tims.
I'll trim this background down and add boarders once I have machine appliquéd it with a finished size of 17 or 17.5 inches.
I really like the batik leaves I fussy cut.
I ended up buying some Mettler Variegated Poly Sheen thread.  A bit of an experiment over my usual rayon solid color appliqué thread.
Not sure if I really like the thread change.  But an experiment is always a gamble.  I will have to see how the leaves look.
I am happier with the leaves in the variegated thread.
The wisteria is in bloom, which means spring is finally here.  Reminds me I still have a very unfinished project going that features these pretty flowers.

  4. I like the look of the variegated thread, especially on the leaves. Your tree block is wonderful! It's such a treat to see your photo of the gorgeous wisteria--we haven't been seeing any around here yet (near Atlanta.)

  7. Lovely wisteria. I had some once, but it didn't bloom at all, I think there wasn't enough sunshine where it was planted. I like the varigated thread very much. It looks great on your tree and leaves. Thank for linking with Design Wall Mondays, Judy

  10. Your applique tree is fantastic! I like the variegation of the thread on the tree, as sometimes the trunks of tree will have silver highlights on the bark. I think it gives it some night light on the trunks of yours!

  14. Your applique is lovely. I like that you fussy cut the batik leaves. The wisteria brings back memories of visiting my son in California and seeing the wisteria there. I wouldn't have thought it would live where I am, but apparently it can, so thank you. I'll look into it for my own garden next year.

  15. Your bending tree design is an interesting one. I don't have batiks in my stash but like seeing others use them.
I wanted to plant Wisteria when we lived in South Carolina. I was discouraged from doing that by several others who said they can take over your other trees and yard very quickly.
