I was really busy this past week. I joined several members of my charity group and we sorted and bagged up 325 quilts for six different local agencies in our area and deliver them. My grandson brought me a pair of firemen's uniform pants to hem. Good thing I love him as alternations and mending is definitely not a favorite thing I care to do. These were complicated in that they have a buckle and velcro strap that is used to chinch the leg around their boots so the end of the pant legs don't catch on fire. These were too long, they wear them sorter than normal length and had to be hemmed up 4 inches, which required the buckle and strap to be removed and moved up. Sewing through multiple layers of heavy fabric, taking off the buckle and strap and getting it back on in the right position was a bit scary.
I finally finished my first Delft Blue block #1. Compared to the pattern I have drastically limited the leaves and flowers. Not sure where I plan to go with this project. I have sort of fallen out of love with it. Have to see where I do with it.Sunday, September 28, 2025
PUMPKINS AND AUTUMN LEAVES
I did a bit of cutting table clean up this week. I happened onto this rotating storage container on Amazon. It has replaced multiple containers that I used to stash little rulers, marking pens, glue and other small tools. I can finally stop searching all over the table for small items, all in one place now.
I am back to working on week two's blocks of Autumn Nights. I have one more to go and then can put the small quilt together. These little guys are buggers. Not fun at all!
I have gone a bit pumpkin crazy this past week. These little guys are fun and will be making a few more of them for our guild's quilt show boutique coming up in January. I might keep this bottom one for myself. Working on one with black fabrics that I really like too.

Oh boy, hemming the firemen's uniform pants seems complicated, you were brave to do it. Your new rotating storage container looks full of pockets and very handy. Great for having everything right on hand! I love those strippy pumpkins, thank you for sharing and linking up!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a lot of quilts to organize and deliver, and it sounds like the pants hemming was a job worth taking your time on. Thanks so much for linking up!
ReplyDeleteSuch cute pumpkins!! I'm in awe with how many quilts your group has been able to donate. Wow!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a quilt that I've fallen outta luv with but forcing myself to finish🤷who knows maybe the luv will spark again once its finished 🤣 you've got some fun blocks started!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you concerning alterations and mending. I have always had to shorten my pants as I am short, but I rarely look forward to doing so. Your pumpkins are wonderful. I like your new rotating storage.
ReplyDeleteHemming those uniforms definitely doesn't sound fun. I'm sure your grandson appreciates all the work. The tulip block is really pretty. But I get sometimes you just fall out of love with something. The pumpkins are really cute. That one is definitely a keeper. Happy stitching this week.
ReplyDeleteI so agree about the mending! I hate doing it. Meanwhile, I love your Delft Blue block. Perhaps it'll become a mini quilt. Those pumpkin place mats are so cute and perfect for fall! Thanks for sharing on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. https://www.inquiringquilter.com/questions/2025/10/01/wednesday-wait-loss-452
ReplyDeleteYou really did have a busy week. Hemming sounds complicated. The leaf blocks look great as do the pumpkin runners. I hope you show us the one with black fabrics when it is done.
ReplyDeleteAltering the hem sounded like a HUGE project. Four inches is a lot of alteration! Good for you to get it done and what a fortunate grandson to have such a loving grandma! Say it isn't so about the Delft blue vase and flowers. . .I think it is lovely and calming! Please keep going!!--TerryK@OnGoingProjects
ReplyDeleteWow, what a lot of quilty goodness being distributed there! I know what you mean about that kind of sewing. I have to sew name tags and badges sometimes on uniforms and they are thick...not easy stitching but nothing like a fireman's gear for sure. How great he's a fireman!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on alterations! I CAN do them, but usually won't anymore! I love your leaf blocks and your pumpkin runners are adorable! Have a great week. Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings.
ReplyDeleteYou get the best grandma badge for that - those fire pants are NOT easy!! go yoU!!!
ReplyDeleteOh that hemming job sounds like a real chore! You must really love that grandson and if he didn’t know it before; he does now! Great job on the quilt donations. That’s pretty incredible! Thank you for sharing all of your pretty projects on To Do Tuesday. I agree those pumpkins are addicting! 😉
ReplyDeleteHi Donnalee, don't you hate it when you fall out of love with a project? Maybe it's just not the right time for it. Those pumpkin placemats are so cute. You deserve to keep at least one! Thanks for linking up to FM Mavericks.
