Over the last two weeks I have spent some time trying to de-stash some of my batiks. Frankly it is a lost cause, I am not getting anywhere, but it has been fun trying.
I had a difficult time with this batik quilt top. While I thought I had tons of different scraps, it seems there just is never enough variety. However, I figured that it is not supposed to be a masterpiece, the idea is to get rid of some of my batiks. Once I got it all together it seems to have come out rather nicely. It is going to my charity group and I hopefully someone will love it.This is my finished NewYork Beauty Tim Holtz Elements quilt top. I am really pleased with this piece. It was so much fun and something I have never done before. Everyone says New York Beauty blocks are difficult to make. There was a bit of a learning curve with them, but they are paper pieced and that system really does make things easier to get those little sharp points. The best part was you can put colors and shapes together next to each other and get away with it that you can't anywhere else.
I've really enjoyed the NY Beauty! Some day I must try those blocks. And it will soon be pumpkin time.
ReplyDeleteYour batik purge quilt turned out beautifully, it's understated but has a nice shimmer to it. The NYB quilt is really fun. You've had a really good July and we are just at the halfway point.
ReplyDeleteYour batik quilt top comes out beautiful. It has the calm feel to it which I like. Sometimes a lot of colors and variety creates chaos and unrest. The NY Beauty and the pumpkin are also beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThose low volume batiks look wonderful together - so soft and calm. I have a lot of batiks here too, and never seem to make a dent in them. Maybe that's because I keep buying more. LOL
ReplyDeleteThree finished projects, and a lot of scraps out of the boxes, well done! All of them are pretty.

All your quilt flimsies are beautiful! Some on will love the neutral rail fence youa re donating. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're probably like me -- treating batik scraps as 'more precious' than regular scraps. So you're right, they never seem to get completely used up. The NYB blocks are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteno lost causes here...very pretty projects....batiks are so fun for anything
ReplyDeleteAll 3 quilt projects are lovely. I want to make a NewYork Beauty quilt someday.
ReplyDeleteI've made several NY Beauties many years ago. You are right. You can piece the tiniest of points and get perfection with paper piecing. I like what you have done with yours.
ReplyDeleteLove the NYB top! The various sizes and shapes of the points make it so much more interesting.
ReplyDeleteOh my, the New York Beauty quilt is just magnificent! What a work of art.
ReplyDeleteI tend to hang onto all my batik scraps...and I have LOTS of them! LOL I love all your finishes. The NYB blocks are fun and paper piecing definitely makes them easier. I would not want to try them any other way. I really like the pumpkins too. Thanks for linking up with Monday Musings!
