SCRAP BURNING

I mentions over the last several months that I have been on a mission to do some de-stashing of older fabrics and my scrap bins.  A few weeks ago I saw a post for a Rainbow Scrap Challenge.

I laid out three fabrics in several colors in order to make nine blocks in each color.
I packaged them up once cut and finally completed nine different color packages.
So this is the block.  I must admit it took a bit of time to get the hang of getting these together.  On the first strip you can only sew the first rectangle half way across the center square.  Then complete that seam after all the rest on sewn to the square.
All the pink color way are done.
Green next.
Blue and so forth.  Lots of scraps used, no dent in the stash what so ever.  But aren't they fun.
OK, after lots of messages and other requests for ducks.  Here is another photo of ducks in the swimming pool with my yougnest grandson.  Mrs. Duck really enjoys the pool, especially flooding along on a pool raft.  One get tired of swimming so she likes to take a rest.

  1. Ha! Love the duck in the pool. It's sad when our efforts at scrap usage makes a great quilt but no dent can be found in the scrap collection. I'm making 3 different types of blocks and really haven't seen much dent. Sigh. Your blocks are cute.

  2. Hi Donnalee, your blocks are really cute. I can see why it would take a while to get used to piecing them, but once you get the hang of it, they would go together quickly.
Your duck picture is great. He's sure not afraid of people!

  3. I am making a quilt of those blocks, too - aren't they fun to make?! I didn't think it took too long to get the hang of that partial seam, and have only had to redo it a couple of times. Yours look great!

  4. "Lots of scraps used, no dents in the stash whatsoever" -- hah! Ain't that always the way it goes! I swear my scraps reproduce like bunny rabbits when I'm not in the studio. Love that your grandson gets to swim with ducks in the pool!! Too cute.

  5. Anything related to scraps grabs me...even with no 'dent' in sight, those blocks look great.

  6. Hi Donnalee! Aww, your grandson is so cute. He looks like he is having a good time in the pool, and the duck looks quite pleased as well. These blocks are cute - kind of log cabin-ish. You sew on one side half way and then make your way around clockwise? Then you finish the other half of the first seam, I'm guessing. Very cute, and I would have a time getting the hang of it myself. And thanks for linking up today! ~smile~ Roseanne

  8. Stash stash and more stash is what I have. I'm having a terrible time trying to find the time to actually even get started going thru and organizing it.

  10. Very pretty blocks and isn't it great to learn another way of doing something. How cute to have ducks enjoying the pool along with the kids.

  11. I vote that you make lots more of those blocks and turn it into a nice big bed sized scrap quilt.

  16. Those scrappy blocks you are making are great. I wonder if they'd make a dent in my 2.5" strip and square bin - they wouldn't be very large blocks, so likely not. But those blocks really are cute.

  17. Hang in there! I really feel like i am starting to make a bit of a dent in my stash this year and RSC has been a great reason for that.

  20. Terrific blocks! Sometimes I wonder how many quilts I could make just from the fabric I have in my stash. The answer? I plead the Fifth. Thanks for linking up to What I Made Monday!

  21. I've seen a lot of those types of blocks lately, it must be the newest trend.

  22. Love the scrappy blocks! It seems like scraps multiply at a much faster rate than we can ever sew them up :) Love the picture of Mrs Duck in the pool! Floating around...now that is the life!!

  23. The thought of a duck spending time in the pool floating on a raft without getting wet is just too hilarious. And isn't it amazing how far scraps seem to go in making more quilts. Until it is important to have enough of something in particular..... then of course it promptly runs out! lol

  24. I'm popping over from Tish's post, because I had to see the duck (so cute!), but oh my, your blocks are so nice! I gave away a bunch of my scraps this year, and I still have too many. I like your idea of packaging them up by color so they are ready to sew. I have to keep that in mind!

  25. I'm not sure how much sewing you have to do to make a dent in the scrap bins. It must be an awful lot! Love the duck in the pool.

  26. One can never get enough duck pictures! Hahaha! Your RSC blocks are adorable but no, they don't seem to put a dent in the scraps. Oh well, keep sewing and one day you might see the bottom!
