I seem to be making a dent in my UFO's pretty well over the last few weeks. I have three quilt tops with prepared bindings going to my guild's charity group. My attempt to de-sash my batiks really didn't make much of a dent, but fun trying I guess.
I did finish this last batik project. All along I was in a quandary as to whether I would give it to my charity group or keep it. My husband voted for keeping it, so it is off to the quilter in a week or two.
The blocks were paper pieced. A YouTube demo I stumbled across on the TV. Simple trick with this 8.5" paper that I was able to just lay my fabrics down on and they came out perfectly pieced together. I did fuss around with this little cutie. I have a friend with AccuCut dies of these little guys that was able to help me with the design of them for me. I just took a bit of time and adjusted the size and with bits and pieces of other appliqué patterns I winged it. I am not much of an artist, but they came out really fun. Plus decided to step up my quilting skills from serpentine stitches and used an oval circular template to quilt them.

Congrats on keeping up with the UFOs and moving several along. That Batik quilt is lovely, love the saturated colors. The cacti are really cute. Happy stitching this week.
ReplyDeleteYOu batiks look like tropical water! This is the second qillt of cool blues in the linkup and I ma starting to think quilts that color are just the thing for this overly hot year. I hadn't seen that Cactus die, must be one of the new ones. You did a great job with them!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on both the batik destash... at least some got used up! And the cute cactus runner. Do you remember the video you watched? I have a batik pile that keeps growing and doesn't get used. I'd like to see how you did yours. Have a quilty week.
ReplyDeleteYour husband is right, you have to keep this beauty at home! Still, good try at cutting down the stash ;) Your cactus are lovely, and the oval spiral quilting is beautiful. Well done! Thank you for sharing your finishes and linking up.

ReplyDeleteGood work on your current de-stashing commitment. The mini cacti are so fun. I'm drawn to clean, simple lines and shapes. Those cacti spoke my name. :)

ReplyDeleteGreat finishes, Donnalee! I really love the cactus, but I am also partial to batiks! LOL Thanks for sharing with us at Monday Musings.
ReplyDeleteDonnalee I agree with your husband that the batik string pieced signature block quilt was a keeper. Your little cactus is just too cute and the oval quilting is just perfect. Thank you for joining To Do Tuesday. I hope you’ve had lots of time with your fabrics this week and have plenty of progress to share soon. 😁 Carol
